Wheeling Police Charge Two in Edgington Lane Robbery

7-11 Robbery Suspect Still Wanted, Was Not Armed

Two people have been apprehended in connection with a robbery that occurred last month at the Up on the Lane cafe.

On Wednesday, Wheeling police arrested Kristina Morris, 33, of Lynwood Avenue, Wheeling, for allegedly robbing the Edgington Lane store April 15. Her live-in boyfriend, Eduardo "Edward" Alvendia, 35, had been arrested the day before after Morris identified him to police.

Police said Morris was identified by the store clerk as having held the door open wide enough that it would not lock. Alvendia allegedly entered, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded, police said. He allegedly got away with more than $5,000 in cash.

Morris, when questioned by police, subsequently identified Alvendia, which lead to his arrest. Morris was taken into custody without incident.

Police charged Alvendia with armed robbery, a felony. He remains in Northern Regional Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bond. Morris faces charges of felony conspiracy. She was released on $5,000 bond.

Morris told police she and Alvendia allegedly used the money to pay rent and utility bills.

Police were called to the cafe at 9 p.m. the night of the robbery. It was the second such event in Wheeling during that same week. On April 9, the 7-11 on Market Street also was robbed.

The suspect in that case was described as a black male with short hair and a beard who took an unknown amount of money before fleeing on foot. He was not reported to be armed and no one was injured.
